Why CBD?
Inflammation is the cause of many common ailments in people and pets alike. CBD acts on the endocannabinoid system that regulates our bodies’ inflammatory response, reducing pain and inflammation. CBD has additionally shown to alleviate stress and anxiety, which can have detrimental effects on the physiology of animals. And unlike typical pain medications for pets, hemp-derived CBD does not damage the kidney, liver or GI tract and can be taken therapeutically on a daily basis.
How do Quadrameds work?
All of our formulations use US sourced, organic MCT oil. The benefits of MCT are well documented and due to it's shorter chain length molecule, it can bypass the stomach and be absorbed and utilized by the liver in a quicker amount of time than other oils.
Since CBD is naturally lipid-soluble, this formulation has high bioavailability through the gastrointestinal tract. Dosing can be accomplished through direct consumption for quickest effects, or you can also dose your animal's food or treats and absorption will still occur during digestion.
We encourage you to talk to your veterinarian about CBD and your pet. Due to the lack of formal studies on CBD, many veterinarians may not have information on dosing or benefits. Our personal pet stories and millions of others are why QuadraMeds exists, and our goal is to give your four-legged companions a better quality of life starting today!
How much and how often?
We recommend starting your initial dosing slow and low and working up to a therapeutic level, which may be different for each pet. Initial dosing can be based off of your pet's body weight and we recommend 2-5 mg per 10 pounds. For example, a 50 pound dog would be in the range of 10 mg - 25 mg per dose. We recommend starting your pet with the low side of this number (10 mg), once per day. Continue this for 5 days and if there are no adverse effects, begin dosing your pet twice per day. At that point you may increase dosing levels in increments of 5 mg per dose to find a therapeutic level.
Can my pet overdose on CBD?
CBD is not toxic to animals, even in studies where larger doses were administered. In very large doses it can cause drowsiness and diarrhea but is not harmful to your pet. It is always best to start off with lower doses (10 mg or less) and increase dosing as needed to therapeutic levels.
Although CBD is non-psychoactive and non-toxic, THC may still be present and it has psychoactive properties that are undesirable for animals. Always consult your veterinarian and insist on products with Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to ensure THC levels are minimal to none (Less than 0.3%).
What is the best way to administer CBD to my pet?
If your pet allows, administer CBD orally with dropper for best dosing and most efficient absorption. You may also choose to put dose on dry food or treat, which still is absorbed but must be partially digested before entering the bloodstream.
What is in the COA and why is independent testing so important?
COA stands for Certificate of Analysis and we test every batch of QuadraMeds at an independent testing facility to ensure quality. COA's outline the potency of CBD in our products as well as other cannabinoids found in Full Spectrum Oil. This also creates a fail-safe through multiple levels of testing to ensure that Delta-9 THC is not present in our products, except in trace amounts which will have no psychoactive side-effects for your pet.
Why is so little known about CBD?
Unfortunately the benefits of CBD were not studied in-depth due to hemp being classified as cannabis, which is considered a "Schedule 1" narcotic and disallows clinical trials and FDA testing. Through the state-level legalization of medical cannabis, the benefits of CBD became evident.
In 2018, the "Farm Bill" allowed the commercial cultivation of industrial hemp, which provides CBD with minimal levels of THC. Since then, the benefits have begun to prove what many people have already discovered, CBD is changing the lives of people and their pets for the better!
